Quilting is an incredible craft that not only helps you hone your creativity but also helps you relax and unwind. However, if you’re new to quilting, selecting the right pattern can be a daunting task. That’s why I’m here to share some of the best quilt pattern types for beginners and why they’re considered to be the best for those just starting out! (Hint: almost all of the patterns we have in our shop are beginner level!)
1. Patchwork Quilts (pictured below)
Patchwork quilts are one of the most popular types of quilts, and for good reason - they’re perfect for beginners! The design is created by sewing together different fabric squares, which are then pieced together in rows to make the quilt top. It’s a simple and straightforward design that allows you to experiment with different color combinations and fabrics. You can start with a simple patchwork quilt and then move onto more intricate designs as your skills improve.
2. Rail Fence Quilts (pictured below)
Rail fence quilts are another easy and beginner-friendly quilt pattern. They are created by sewing together strips of fabric in different colors and patterns and then cut in sections to create a block. The block is then pieced together in opposite directions to create the quilt top.
3. Nine Patch Quilts (pictured below)
Nine Patch quilts are a classic quilt design that has been around for centuries. They’re created by sewing together nine fabric squares to create a block which is then pieced together to form the quilt top. Nine patch quilts are perfect for beginners because they're easy to create and offer endless possibilities for design variations. You can use different color combinations or experiment with different fabrics to create a unique quilt.
4. Log Cabin Quilts (pictured below)
Log cabin quilts are another classic quilt design that is perfect for beginners. They’re created by piecing together strips of fabric around a center square to create a block, which is then pieced together to form the quilt top. Log cabin quilts are great for beginners because they’re easy to create, and the design possibilities are endless.
